Jägertee is a classic drink for cold days. Warm, spicy, and perfect for sipping slowly. This Austrian drink combines strong black tea with rum, citrus, and spices. The result is a full-bodied, warming drink that is ideal for a winter evening or as a way to end a dinner party.
Ingredients
- 1 liter of water
- 3 bags of strong black tea
- 250 ml dark rum
- 1 orange
- 1 lemon
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar or to taste
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cloves
Supplies
- Steel pan
- Knife and cutting board
- Wooden spoon
- Tea glasses or mugs

Preparation
- Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove the pan from the heat and let the tea bags steep for about 5 minutes. Then remove the bags.
- Slice the orange and lemon. Add these to the tea along with the brown sugar, cinnamon stick, and cloves.
- Return the pan to low heat and gently warm the mixture. Do not allow it to boil so that the flavors remain nicely balanced.
- Finally, add the rum and heat for a few more minutes while stirring gently.
- Pour the Jägertee into glasses or mugs and serve immediately.
You can easily adjust this Jägertee to suit your taste. Use more or less sugar, add extra spices, or choose a different rum. By heating the drink slowly, the aromas remain full and smooth, exactly as Jägertee is intended to be.
