Warm cinnamon rolls for a cozy day

Fancy something sweet that instantly puts you in a good mood? Then cinnamon rolls are just what you need. Soft, sticky and filled with that delicious cinnamon filling that makes your kitchen smell spontaneously hot. You roll, cut, bake ... and before you know it, there's a bowl full of rolls of happiness on the table. Ideal for a lazy sunday with coffee or just as a snack to treat yourself. As soon as they come out of the oven, the smell fills the whole house, no one can resist.

Ingredients (homemade, about 12 rolls)

  • 500 gr flour
  • 75 gr sugar
  • 1 sachet of dried yeast (7 gr)
  • 250 ml hot milk
  • 75 gr soft butter
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt

Ingredients (Quick version, about 6 rolls)

  • 1 roll of ready-made cinnamon swirls packaging
  • 50 gr soft butter
  • 75 gr brown caster sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp. cinnamon

For the topping (both versions)

  • 100 gr powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp of milk or water

Supplies

  • Large bowl (for homemade dough)
  • rolling pin
  • Cutting board or work surface to roll out dough
  • Oven dish or baking sheet
  • Oven

Preparation method (homemade)

  • Mix flour, sugar, yeast and salt in a bowl. Add milk, butter and the egg and knead into a soft dough. Let this rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle, brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll up tightly, cut into about 12 slices and place in a greased baking dish. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes at 180 °C until golden brown.

Preparation method (quick version)

  • Roll out the ready-made dough and press any seams.
  • Spread with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll up, cut into about 6 pieces and place in a baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes at 180 °C until golden brown.

Serve

Make a glaze from powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of milk or water and drizzle it generously over the warm cinnamon rolls. The glaze will slowly melt between the layers and make them extra sticky and irresistible.

Cinnamon rolls are best when they are still a little warm, soft on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside and with that sweet glaze on top. Perfect with a lazy sunday brunch, a steaming cup of coffee or just as a treat in between. One thing is for sure: after this, this recipe will be on repeat more often.
