It won't surprise you but the base of mulled wine is, of course, wine. Several additional ingredients are added to this to get the recognizable sweet, spicy smell and taste.
Ingredients:
- 1 liter of red wine
- 1 orange
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cloves
- 2 star anise
- Half a lemon
- 2 tbsp sugar
In addition, you are free to experiment with different fruits.
Mulled wine recipe
Below is an easy basic recipe to make a delicious mulled wine for the upcoming holidays.
- Put a pan with the wine on low heat. The wine should not boil, as this will cause the alcohol to evaporate.
- Then add the ingredients cloves, star anise and cinnamon to allow the flavors to soak well into the wine.
- Next, slice the lemon and orange and add them to the wine.
- Add some sugar if necessary (how sweet you make it is up to you).
- Then leave the pan on low heat for at least 15 min, again making sure the wine does not boil.
- Once the flavors are well infused, you can start enjoying your homemade mulled wine.
Going for quick and easy ... of course, you can also buy it ready-made!
How do I pour mulled wine?
Glühwein is drunk hot and the best way to do that is from a tempered glass. Tempered glass is 2.5 times stronger than annealed glass and can be compared to the strength of a car window. Tempered glass is also resistant to thermal shock. If you are standing outside by the brazier and the glasses have become well chilled, there is no problem pouring your delicious hot mulled wine! In addition, you can also easily warm up the mulled wine with glass in the magnetron!
Tip: Which wine do I choose?
If you're going to make your own mulled wine, choose a slightly stronger red wine. Want to experiment with a white wine? You can ... but choose a Moscato or Riesling.
